History & Archives
Where we come from is inseparable from where we are going. Understanding Joyner's history is understanding our values — and those values have never changed.

Why History Matters

History is not just a record of the past — it is the foundation of identity. At Joyner, knowing our story helps every associate understand why we do what we do. Our commitment to service, community, and doing the right thing was not written in a boardroom. It was lived on neighborhood streets, in church vans, and at kitchen tables long before Joyner Transportation & Logistic Services existed as a company.

Joyner is well known for being a good team player — for doing the right thing for our customers and communities. But that commitment goes much deeper than the day we were founded. Doing the right thing has been sewn into the very core of who we are as an organization.

Where It All Began
One Minivan. One Mission. Two Generations.

Lonnell Joyner, born in Decatur, Illinois, started using his personal minivan to help members of his community get to and from doctor's appointments and the grocery store — not because it was a business, but because it was the right thing to do.

In August 1999, he used that same minivan to help members of his church get to and from Sunday morning worship service. He prepared meals, made grocery runs, and delivered to those in need — because he understood that transportation was not a simple thing for everyone. His church later purchased a van that he drove to get members to Sunday service and weekday Bible study.

Where did that passion come from? His mother, Catherine Perkins-Joyner — a woman whose desire to serve her community, including offering a simple ride to a neighbor, became the seed of everything Joyner is today.

We all have that one family member or close friend we can rely on to get from point A to point B. That is Joyner's heart and mission — as pure today as it was then. Two generations later, we still want to be that person you can not only trust, but rely on.

Joyner & Our Communities

Doing the Right Thing — In Our Communities

Joyner's community investment is not a marketing strategy — it is a continuation of who we have always been. As a public leader in transportation safety efforts, Joyner has adopted roads throughout several states. We actively sponsor safety programs and organizations that make our highways and neighborhoods safer for everyone.

We help build strong communities through activities aimed at children, teens, and young adults — including programs that enable financial literacy, create safe neighborhoods, and promote road safety. Because we believe that a company's responsibility does not end at the loading dock or the customer's door.

In our communities, online and offline, through myjoyner.com or one of nearly 1,700 service providers — Joyner is here, and here to stay.

Proud to carry this legacy forward.

Every associate at Joyner is part of this story. Every customer served is a continuation of what Lonnell and Catherine started.

What Makes Joyner Different

Logistics and transportation is a crowded industry. What sets Joyner apart has never been the size of our fleet or the length of our product list — it has always been the heart behind the operation.

Community Is Our Origin Story
Joyner did not start as a business. It started as an act of service — a person helping his neighbors get where they needed to go. That origin story is not marketing copy. It is the reason this company exists, and it shapes every decision we make about how to treat customers and communities.
People Over Process
Many companies are built around systems. Joyner is built around people — the customers we serve, the associates who serve them, and the communities we operate in. Systems support the work. People are the work.
Growth Without Losing the Mission
In less than a decade as a formal company, Joyner grew from a single-line freight operation to a six-division, multi-product organization. What has not grown is the gap between our stated values and how we actually operate. That consistency — between what we say and what we do — is rare, and it is the foundation of customer trust.
Community Investment Is Built In
Road adoption across multiple states. Safety programs for children and teens. Financial literacy initiatives. Corporate giving and volunteer grants. Joyner's community investment is not a line item — it is part of how the company was designed. We give back because it is who we are, not because it looks good in a press release.
A Standard That Has a Name
Not every company commits to a customer service standard with enough conviction to give it a name and build an entire culture around it. Joyner did — and Outstand!ng is not a slogan. It is a daily practice, a measurable expectation, and the clearest expression of who we are as a company.
You Are Part of This Story
Every associate at Joyner is a continuation of what Lonnell and Catherine started. Every customer you serve, every delivery you make, every problem you solve — that is the mission, carried forward. The history of this company does not live in a document. It lives in what you do today. Carry it well.
