How Career Development Works at Joyner

Set Your IDP
Complete your Individual Development Plan using the form above. Define your 1-year and 3-5 year goals, the skills you want to build, and the support you need from your manager. Review and update it quarterly.

Have Career Conversations
Your manager is your primary career development partner. Schedule a career conversation at least once per quarter — separate from your weekly 1:1 — to discuss your development progress, stretch opportunities, and advancement timeline.

Complete Relevant Training
Log into Joyner University and complete the training tracks aligned with your career goals. Certifications, leadership tracks, and role-specific courses all count toward your advancement readiness. Every promotion discussion includes a review of completed training.

Apply for Open Roles
When you are ready for your next step, apply through the Joyner internal job board at myjoyner.com/careers. Internal candidates are always considered first. If you are interested in a role in another division, talk to your manager before applying — they can provide a referral and context to the hiring team.

Owns the full operational performance of a Joyner freight hub — people, freight, safety, and financials.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate multi-hub awareness. Complete the Joyner Executive Leadership program. Drive measurable hub efficiency improvements over 2+ years.

Director of Operations

Leads regional operations strategy, hub network performance, and enterprise-level freight initiatives across multiple hubs.

Responsibilities

Regional P&L, hub manager oversight, network capacity planning, carrier strategy, safety culture leadership, and executive reporting.

Key Qualifications

5+ years in operations leadership, demonstrated hub performance improvement, strong executive presence, and enterprise-level strategic thinking.

This is a Director-level role. Promotion to this level is evaluated by the executive team in partnership with HR.

Sales Associate

Supports the sales pipeline through prospecting, lead qualification, and client outreach.

Responsibilities

Lead generation, outbound prospecting, CRM data management, client follow-up, and sales support for Account Executives.

Path Forward

Build a consistent pipeline. Hit quota for 3 consecutive quarters. Complete the Joyner Sales Foundations track on Joyner University.

Typical tenure before promotion: 12–18 months
Mid · Sales

Account Executive

Owns a book of business and manages the full sales cycle from prospect to close.

Responsibilities

Full sales cycle management, RFP responses, contract negotiation, client relationship management, and quota attainment.

Path Forward

Consistently exceed quota. Develop enterprise account relationships. Mentor junior sales associates. Complete Sales Leadership Readiness on JU.

Senior · Sales

Sales Manager

Leads a regional sales team, drives team quota attainment, and develops top sales talent.

Responsibilities

Team hiring, coaching and performance management, regional pipeline oversight, executive reporting, and enterprise deal support.

VP · Sales

Vice President of Sales

Leads Joyner's national sales organization and go-to-market strategy.

Responsibilities

National revenue strategy, sales team leadership, enterprise client relationships, pricing strategy, and executive partnership.

Executive-level role. Evaluated by the CEO and executive team.

Technology Associate

Supports internal systems, help desk operations, and junior development tasks.

Responsibilities

IT support, system monitoring, QA testing, documentation, and software development support tasks.

Path Forward

Build proficiency in Joyner's tech stack. Complete the Technology track on Joyner University. Contribute to at least 2 shipped features or system improvements.

Minimum 1 year in current role, strong performance record, completion of Leadership Readiness program on Joyner University, and manager endorsement.

The Leadership Track spans all divisions. Progression is based on performance and demonstrated leadership capability.

Manager

Full people management responsibility — hiring, coaching, performance, and team development.

Requirements

12+ months as a Team Lead or equivalent, completion of Manager Foundations track on JU, and demonstrated ability to develop others.

Step 3 · Leadership

Senior Director

Cross-functional leadership with significant organizational ownership and executive visibility.
Evaluated by executive leadership. Requires demonstrated impact across multiple teams or divisions.

Division-level leadership with P&L accountability and board-level reporting responsibilities.
Executive level. Selected by the CEO and executive committee.
Executive

C-Suite / Executive Leadership
