Not Applicable

Overview

This policy reviews the general guidelines to provide for the safety of individuals with impairments when a building is evacuated. Generally the employee is responsible for developing a safe evacuation plan, and the manager supports this effort by connecting employees to the appropriate resources.

General Information

Managers should refer employees to complete the Work Place Self-Assessment form for review by local Admin Services. Employees should meet with their manager to discuss specific needs for a personal evacuation plan.

Requests for special equipment should be submitted to Administrative Services for further evaluation.

Employee Actions

Complete the Work Place Self-Assessment form if there is a need for safety, special, or assistive equipment.

This form is sent to the local Admin Services for evaluation.

Complete a new Work Place Self-Assessment form to report any changes (e.g. location, special equipment needs) to the local Admin Services.

Contact your manager to discuss the development of a personal evacuation plan.

Work with your Floor Monitor to outline the evacuation route. A secondary route should be identified for use in the event the primary route is blocked.

Check, locate, and secure accessible places for shelter in the event of emergencies requiring the evacuation of the building.

Identify at least two employees (i.e. one primary, one alternate) to assist as needed in an evacuation.

Finalize evacuation plan and share with your manager, Floor Monitor, and additional employees as needed.

Managerial Actions

Ensure employees are aware of the need to develop a safe evacuation plan and provide resources as needed.

Refer employees with a need for safety, special or assistive equipment to complete the Work Place Self-Assessment form, which is sent to the local Admin Services Specialist for evaluation. Admin Services will collaborate with the Human Resources ADA Team if additional assistance (i.e. medical documentation, work place accommodation) is needed for the employee.
