Not Applicable

Overview

Parental Leave provides paid time off for eligible employees following the birth of a newborn baby.

General information

Eligibility Full-time and part-time benefits-eligible employees are eligible for paid time off for Parental Leave.

Definitions For the purposes of this policy, parent is defined as the birthing mother and the non-birthing parent.

Length of Leave Eligible employees may use up to one week of standard hours of paid leave, which can be taken intermittently. Time off must be taken within one year of the baby’s birth.

NOTE: Parental Leave is mutually exclusive from the Adoption Leave policy; only one will apply.

For birthing mothers, the employee qualifies for parental leave after the doctor has released her back to work and the Short Term Disability (STD) claim is closed.

Employee Actions

Time off under Parental Leave is requested in advance through your supervisor.

Employees will request and record Parental Leave in the Time Management Tool.

Contact Joyner’s third party Health Service Provider to determine if the leave qualifies for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) protection.

Managerial Actions

The supervisor explains the Parental Leave policy to new and on-board employees.

The supervisor discusses Parental Leave request procedures with employees.

The supervisor must evaluate each request, determine if it qualifies, and return a decision to the employee.

Human Resources Role

Human Resources staff should be familiar with the provisions of the policy in order to help leadership administer the Parental Leave policy in an accurate and consistent manner.
